Transition Coaching

“Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

– International Coach Federation (ICF)

It’s your life.  Nobody knows more about your life than you do.  That’s why coaches don’t give advice – it would be presumptuous to tell you how to live your life.  So, what DO coaches do?

We help you figure out what you really want.  If you’re not sure what changes to make in your life, we will help you envision your next chapter in glorious technicolour and surround sound!

If you have a good idea of the change you’re hoping to make but are overwhelmed by it or don’t know how to get started, working with a coach can help you take those first steps.

Coaches ask a lot of questions.  We dig past the superficial response.  We don’t accept the excuses you make to yourself for being stuck.   We uncover what’s blocking you – the real reasons – and help you acknowledge them and move forward.

Coaches are your cheerleaders!  When you take a small step forward, take an action or conquer a fear, we’ll be supporting you.  If you need someone to hold you accountable – that’s us!

Coaching is a process.  Although sometimes amazing results can occur after just one session, the real rewards – long-term sustainable positive change – come with time and some hard work.

Change takes energy. If you are or have been going through a difficult time, it can be hard to find the energy to do anything, least of all figure out the rest of your life.  As your coach, we can help you understand the energy level you’re at, and how to shift into a higher gear.

Normally, coaching sessions take place by phone, in 50 minute calls (the first one may be longer).  Video or in-person coaching is also available, if logistics permit. Sessions are often weekly and can be more or less frequent, as needed.   However it’s good to have a few days between sessions to give you time to do whatever “work” you’ve committed to. Sometimes that will be an exercise the coach has suggested for you; sometimes it might be a small step toward a goal that you have committed to.  Although you may have an over-arching purpose for your coaching relationship, you set the agenda for each session. It’s entirely about you and whatever you need at that moment. Most coaching engagements wind up after 3-4 months. You can always return if you have another goal you want to work on.

Coaching works best when you are ready to move forward but aren’t quite sure how.  If you have been stuck for a long time or are chronically depressed then therapy might be the better answer for you.  Sometimes therapy and coaching can work hand-in-hand – with the therapist helping with the roots of the problem and the coach on forward-looking steps.

Welcome or not, change takes courage. There is uncertainty. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. Sometimes there is something holding you back.
